Welcome to the 2020 Ontario Women’s Disc Golf Championship & WGE (Women’s Global Event), we’re pleased to bring you our 5th annual Women’s Championship and look forward to making it the best yet. The tournament returns to the hallowed fairways of the Bronte Creek Disc Golf Course in Oakville, Ontario.

The development of Women’s disc golf is important-to, and directly integrated-with the ODSA’s mission to help grow the sport in Ontario, especially with those dramatically under-represented. At this point in time, while representing approximately 50% of the world’s population, our sport has a women’s demographic representing approximately 9% of all PDGA members. This is grossly out-of-whack and likely a result of a culture that originally developed on many, intentional or not, one-sided exclusionary principles. With a culture-shift towards inclusiveness and equality within our sport, we anticipate women’s participation in our sport to continue to migrate towards the balance-point through continued female-centric events, clinics and equality principles being put to practice.

The 2020 Ontario Women’s Disc Golf Championship takes place May 9th, 2020. All registrants will receive a lunch and a chalk-full WGE tournament players pack in addition to goodies from our supporting sponsors. Players returning from last year will also receive a personalized trading card from the previous year. As our event is both a championship, as well as an opportunity to introduce new players to the sport, below we outline the divisions being offered, as well as the formats they’ll play and players packs they’ll receive:

Divisions

Beginner (FA3) $20:

This division is intended for women new, or fairly new to the sport. We will offer instruction to all players who wish to attend a pre-tournament clinic, as well as a morning-of-event instruction and rules-of-disc golf briefing. This is meant to be a good time with a side of competition. Our primary objective here is to introduce you to the sport, get a set of discs in your possession, and provide you with a low-pressure, female-dominated environment in which to try the sport, or competition for the first time. Typically players in this division will throw anywhere from 50 to 200 feet with their drives and can be quite sporadic with their putting accuracy. C’est la vie, just have fun! Player’s packs for the beginner division include a starter set of discs, bag and other goodies. This division will play a round from the amateur tees.

Intermediate & Age-Protected (FA2/FA40) $30:

This division is for somewhat experienced to experienced players who are looking for their first competitive experience, or looking to improve on their competitive success. Attendance at the pre-tournament clinic and briefing aren’t necessary but welcomed with open arms. There’s no such thing as too much practice, and maybe you’ll hear something you haven’t before. Players in this division can typically throw their drives 150-250 feet off the tee, and will hit 4-6 putts out of 10 from 20 feet, demonstrating a degree of consistency with their putting. The players pack for this division will include the full WGE players pack in addition to other goodies. This division will play from the short tees.

Advanced (FA1) $30:

If you’re playing Advanced, you’ve had some tournament experience and are either transitioning from Intermediate in an effort to further develop your game, or nearly ready for the professional ranks. There is a pronounced increase in driving and putting consistency when compared to the FA2 division. Players can typically drive 200+ feet and will make 6+/10 putts from 20 feet. Players in this division will include the full WGE players pack in addition to other goodies. This division will play both rounds from the short tees.

Pro (FPO) $30:

If you’re playing pro, you might not even be reading these descriptions by now. This is the pinnacle of women’s disc golf divisions, all the big names play here: Pierce, Allen, Weese, Hokom, Fajkus, Jenkins. Players in this division can typically drive 250+ feet and will make upwards of 8/10 of their putts from 20 feet. Players in this division will have the option to purchase the full WGE players pack in addition to other goodies when they register, otherwise, as the name suggests, they’re playing for their payout. We’re going to spice things up and double-up on added cash this year!

Prizing

All divisions will be competing for trophies for the top finishers as well as a tonne of supplemental prizing for longest putts, CTP’s, draw prizes, etc. and cash for the pros.

It should be noted, after round 1, the top 4 OVERALL scores from FA1 and FPO will be grouped together on the same card. As is tradition, the overall tournament champion can come from either division as each will be playing the same layout/format. The added bonus being that the lead card at the Championship will be filmed by TRUE NORTH PRODUCTIONS for their final round.
